Thermoluminescence and photoluminescence of kcl whiskers irradiated with x rays at low temperature

Abstract

The distinctive features of thermoluminescence of Individual specimens of KCl whiskers, irradiated with x rays at 90°K, have been studied in comparison with those of bulk specimens. The observed difference in the kinetics of the growth of peaks due to the destruction of Vk centers (under isodose irradiation the peak in the thermoluminescence of a bulk crystal decreases after saturation while that of a whisker increases without saturation) is attributed to different electron-trap contents and F′-center concentrations. A mechanism is proposed for the thermally stimulated and photostimulated creation of Vk centers with free electrons, liberated from F′ and F centers, recombining with V2 and V4 centers.
