Separation of atomic beams by light pressure

Abstract

We calculate the separation efficiency for an isotope-separation setup utilizing atomic beam deflection by light. The theory is based on the notion of the light-pressure force with due inclusion of the metastable states. The theory and the existing experimental results are compared, and the approximations are discussed.
