Abstract
A five-step scheme has been developed for the construction of the regular sesquiterpene cyclopentanoid skeleton characteristic of the metabolites of several species of fungi, based ontrans-3-isopropenyl-2-phenylsulfonylcyclopentan-1-one, readily accessible from methylheptenone.
