Laminar motion of aqueous polymer solutions

Abstract

Results are given on the laminar flow of aqueous polymer solutions in a planar tube. Various solutions of polyacrylamide and polyoxyethylene have been used. Weak solutions (0.025 and 0.05% of polyacrylamide and 0.01% of polyoxyethylene) behave as does ordinary water in laminar flow, while comparatively concentrated solutions (0.2 and 0.4% polyacrylamide) behave in a somewhat different way in the transition state, i.e., the onset of the turbulent condition is somewhat prolonged.
