Shape factor of a specimen in relation to the connection between brittle strength and time
On the basis of the thermal fluctuation theory of brittle fracture of solids an equation is derived for the strength of specimens of various cross-section profile as a function of temperature and time. The theoretical calculations of the shape factor were carried out on a computer.
