Conclusions
-
1.
A study was made of the behavior of the 2,2-dibromo-, 2,2-dichloro-, and 2-chloroadamantanes in the presence of AlBr3, both in organic solvents and in bromine medium.
-
2.
The synthesis of the tri- and tetrabromoadamantanes from the 2-chloro- and 2,2-dichloroadaman-tanes is accomplished under milder conditions than from the nodal mono- and dibromoadamantanes.
-
3.
The dibromoadamantanes that are formed during the bromination of the 2,2-di- and 2-chloroadamantanes contain predominantly the diaxial 2,4-dibromoadamantane, while 1,3,6-tribromoadamantane is the principal component in the tribromoadamantanes.
