Communication 6. Cyclization of 3-(acetonylthio)thiophenes in presence of aluminum chloride

Summary

  1. 1.

    Unlike the cyclization of 2-(acetonylthio)-5-methylthiophene, in the course of the cyclization of 3-(acetonylthio)thiophenes in presence of aluminum chloride under the same conditions the migration of the acetonylthio group is not observed, and 3-methylthieno[3,2-b]thiophenes are formed.

    Methods were developed forthe preparation of 3-methylthieno[3,2-b]thiophenes and thieno[3,2-b]thiophene.
