Summary

1.
2,2,4-Trichlorobutyryl chloride condenses with benzene in presence of aluminum chloride by reaction at the chlorine of the chloroformyl group with formation of 2,2,4-trichlorobutyrophenone and 2,3,3-trichlorotetrahydro-2-phenylfuran, which is isolated in the form of 3,3-dichlorotetrahydro-2-phenyl-2-furanol.

2.
An investigation was made of the chemical transformations of 3,3-dichlorotetrahydro-2-phenyl-2-furanol, which occur both with the opening and with the preservation of the ring.
