Summary

  1. 1.

    A study was made of the hydrogenation of 2-acetyl-5-methylfuran over platinized charcoal at 200–220° in a flow apparatus under pressure.

  2. 2.

    Change in hydrogen pressure from 1 to 50 atm has no effect on the course of the reduction of the carbonyl group and the hydrogenolysis of the furan ring, but only increases the degree of hydrogenation of the hydrogenolysis products.
