Summary

  1. 1.

From the roots ofClematis manshurica Rupr. a triterpene saponin-a glycoside of oleanolic acid called clematoside C-was isolated.

  2. 2.

Clematoside C is a decaoside of oleanolic acid and contains residues of glucose, arabinose, xylose, and rhamnose in the proportions 5∶1∶1∶3.

  3. 3.

Clematoside C is an O-acyl glycoside in which a carbohydrate chain consisting of glucose and rhamnose residues is attached at the hindered carboxy group. At the 3-position of the genin a carbohydrate chain containing glucose, arabinose, xylose, and rhamnose residues is attached.
