Peroxy derivatives of organoaluminum compounds as initiators of radical polymerization

Communication 1. System formed by an organoaluminum compound and oxygen or α,α-dimethylbenzyl hydroperoxide

  • Published:
Bulletin of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR, Division of chemical science Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

The aluminum peroxy compound formed by reaction between triethylaluminum andα,α- dimethylbenzyl hydroperoxide is unstable and, depending on the temperature, is converted into an alkoxy compound or decomposes with formation of free radicals.

  2. 2.

Organoaluminum compounds initiate radical polymerization only under conditions that ensure their conversion into the corresponding peroxy derivatives.
