Summary
Infective endocarditis is uncommon in young children, especially in the absence of structural heart disease. We report the case of a 2-year-old boy who presented with acute rupture of the mitral valve chordae 6 weeks after an episode ofFusobacterium necrophorum septicemia. His heart had been structurally normal before. Mitral valve replacement was successfully performed. This is the first recorded case of endocarditis in a child caused by necrobacillosis.
