Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

Conclusion

The special government etalon of the brightness energy unit at the tin solidification temperature, created in VNIIM, assures the reproduction of the unit and transmission of its dimension in conformity with the all-union checking scheme, by using working etalons and standard measurement facilities, to the working measurement facilities used in the national economy.

The random error in reproducing the brightness energy unit and in transmitting its dimension, expressed as an estimate of the root-mean-square deviation of the measurement results, is 0.3%. The unexcluded systematic error in reproducing the unit does not exceed 0.1%.

The special etalon of the brightness energy unit is not inferior to and in some cases even exceeds the initial measurement facilities of other nations in accuracy, and satisfied the demands of the USSR national economy completely.

Further research on perfecting the etalon will be carried out in order to reproduce the brightness energy at the temperature of zinc solidification and of the phase transitions of other materials.

The manager of the VNIIM Laboratory, Cand. Tech. Sciences Viktor Vasil'evich Babushkin was appointed scientific custodian of the etalon by Gosstandart USSR.
