Transfer function of a string

Measurement Techniques Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Expressions have been obtained for a transfer function of a stationary and a moving string (thread) at the velocity v0 produced by oscillations of one of its supports.

  2. 2.

The frequency hodograph of the stationary thread consists of a circle with its center on the negative imaginary axis. The diameter of a moving thread is slightly reduced and its center is displaced to an amount depending on the value of the phase lag angle which is determined by the ratio of the linear and wave velocities. This must be taken into account in designing resonance frequency oscillators for a moving thread.

  3. 3.

It will be seen from Fig. 2 that an oscillating string (thread) is highly selective, thus making it possible to determine with high precision the linear density of threads from their resonance oscillation frequency.
