Abstract
Trimethylammonium-di-trifluoroacetyl-methylide (1) was hydrolysed in both aqueous-acidic and basic milieu to form the corresponding salts2 and4a of trimethylammonium-trifluoroacetyl-methylid by loss of a trifluoroacetyl group.1 in contrast does not form salts with alkylhalides or water-free acids. Treatment of the hydroiodide4a with silver oxide in aqueous solution affords the very stable, salt-free trimethylammonium-trifluoroacetylmethylid (8).
