Abstract
Meerwein’s salts, also known as the Meerwein reagents, refer to trimethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (Me3O+BF4 -) and triethyloxonium tetrafluoroborate (Et3O+BF4 -). Named after the inventor Hans Meerwein,1 these trialkyloxonium salts are powerful alkylating agents.
