Conclusion

The studies using adult cardiomyocytes indicate that preconditioning is indeed a genuine phenomenon of the myocardial cell. Our own results show that a pharmacological precontioning protocol can provide a pronounced protective effect-comparable to the extent of protection in whole myocardium. The isolation procedure does, therefore, nor render cardio-myocytes unable to exhibit a clear preconditioning effect.
