Conclusions

  1. 1.

The fan structure in an ingot of AMg6 alloy is maintained in heavy semifinished products in the form of little-fragmented twinning planes. In back extrusion the twinning plane is maintained over the whole length of the semifinished product while in forward extrusion it is observed only from the outgoing end.

During extrusion the fan crystals are clearly fragmented even with small degrees of deformation.

  2. 2.

The presence of fan structure in a large-diameter bar does not have a significant influence on the mechanical properties of AMg6 alloy.

  3. 3.

The quality of shapes with respect to mechanical properties and fracture toughness depends little upon structure. The fatigue resistance of specimens with fan structure is higher than that of specimens with equiaxial structure.
