Conclusions

Examples are cited of cases where heating with laser light pulses results in the formation of solid solutions (iron-carbon, iron-tungsten, etc.) and/or compounds (cobalt-tungsten, aluminum-niobium, iron-silicion, etc.).

A study of the system iron-tungsten has shown that laser beam treatment enables solid solutions to be obtained having concentrations more than three times as high as the equilibrium concentrations.

3.
A possible physical mechanism of the phenomena observed, involving liquid-state mixing and quenching, is examined.
