Conclusions
On the basis of general laws of motion and statistical regularities, a formula has been derived for the diffusion coefficient which is in good agreement with the well-known Dushman-Langmuir formula allowing for entropy of activation.
An attempt has been made to elucidate the physical meaning of the preexponential factor D0 and energy of activation A. The preexponential factor D0 represents the averaged specific action of an elementary displacement of a diffusing atom and energy of activation A the averaged value of energy in the action of one mole of the diffusing substance.
