X-ray spectral investigation of the homogeneity region of titanium nitride

  • Published:
Soviet Powder Metallurgy and Metal Ceramics Aims and scope

Summary

  1. 1.

In the homogeneity region of titanium nitride, the character of the chemical bond varies in the direction of an increase in its metallic component as the nitride composition approaches the stoichiometric composition.

  2. 2.

It has been found that the long-wave\(K_\beta ^\pi\) satellite has a two-hump form. This shape indicates the presence of crossover transitions from under the band of collectivized electrons of metalloid origin (which preserve their individuality in this case) at the I s-level of the metallic atom.

  3. 3.

It has been shown that this satellite may consist of two portions corresponding to collectivized and uncollectivized electrons.

  4. 4.

The weak involvement of d-electrons in the chemical bond has been once again confirmed.
