Conclusions

  1. 1.

Hydrogenation of commerical titanium VT1-0 was not observed in hydrogen at 150 MPa pressure and 25°C under the conditions of uniform compression, or tensile stress up to 0.9-σ0.2 produced by internal pressure of the gas.

  2. 2.

At 100°C, under a hydrogen pressure of 109 MPa, hydrogenation of titanium occurred under the conditions of both uniform compression and, in the case of tubular speciments, under internal pressure. The rate of hydrogenation of the tubular specimens was appreciably higher.

  3. 3.

Titanium hydride forms in the subsurface layers of the tubular specimens after testing at 100°C.
