Selection of materials for the preparation of extraction columns

Pharmaceutical Chemistry Journal Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The liability to soiling of three types of metal sieve plate during the extraction of aqueous raw juices has been investigated. It was found that copper accumulated the smallest amount of deposit and stainless steel a little more, whereas grade St-3 carbon steel suffered gross contamination.

  2. 2.

The large differences in liability to soiling of the metals studied were attributed to differences in the wettability by water and the organic solvent (the hydrophobic character is inversely related to the soiling tendency).
