Comparison of the statistical characteristics for the diffusion and section models of bubble plates

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

The number of completely mixed sections S (section model) and parameter B of the diffusion model have been estimated by means of the method of moments.

  2. 2.

It has been shown that the statistical parameters of the density distributions of the residence times according to the two models coincide only in the cases of ideal prop flow (S→∞, B→∞) and complete mixing (S→ 1, B→ 0).

  3. 3.

It has been shown that the asymmetry and excess coefficients of the distribution curve predicted by the diffusion model are larger than those predicted by the section model at all parameter values in the range 1 <S<∞ (0<B<∞); therefore these characteristics should not be used in correlating B and S.
