Abstract

Electrotransport of hydrogen in Fe, Ni, and Cu at 40–80° C was studied and the effective charges of hydrogen atoms were calculated. The direction of electrotransport of hydrogen in these metals is temperaturedependent. Since the concentration and mobility of vacancies at low temperatures studied are small, electrotransport of hydrogen in Fe, Ni, and Cu is determined directly by the interaction of conduction electrons with hydrogen dissolved in the regular metal-crystal lattice. Electrotransport of hydrogen below certain temperatures is directed toward the anode. The results are explained from the standpoint of the vacancy-electron mechanism of electrotransport.
