Efficiency of the different modifications of grid plates having no overflow devices during rectification

Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

By comparing the hydraulic characteristics and efficiency of different modifications of grid plates without overflow devices during rectification, it has been shown that plates with bent-edge slots operate with more stability, have 15–17% higher throughput, and require less metal than grid plates of the ordinary design.

  2. 2.

For identical free cross sections and slot widths, both the modifications of grid plates have identical efficiencies in the working range of loading.

  3. 3.

Equations have been recommended for calculating the minimum and maximum vapor velocities for plates with bent-edge slots; an optimum slot width of 5 mm and an optimum free cross section of 15% have also been recommended.

  4. 4.

It has been shown that in rectification, grid plates with bent-edge slots enable the throughput of bubbleplate columns to be raised by 1.7–2.2 times, depending on the free cross-sectional area.
