Individual hydrocarbon composition of liquid paraffins

  • Published:
Chemistry and Technology of Fuels and Oils Aims and scope

Conclusions

A study has been made of the individual composition of those hydrocarbons present in commercial liquid paraffins that do not form complexes with urea. It has been shown that these hydrocarbons consist of isoalkanes, cycloalkanes, and phenylalkanes. Some 75–80% weight of the isoalkanes consists of hydrocarbons for which the methyl group is located in position 2, 3, or 4. The cycloalkanes are five- and six-membered rings with a single straight-chain alkyl substituent. In the phenylalkanes, the benzene ring is attached to the second carbon atom in the alkyl chain.
