Chromatolysing spinal neurons in the chick following tricresylphosphate (TCP) intoxication

Summary

Chromatolytic neurons in the anterior and posterior horns at lumbar level of the chick's spinal cord are found after oral application of 0.22 cc/kg of a mono-, ortho ester of TCP.

These neuronal changes are accompanied by ascending fibre degeneration.

It is suggested that the neuronal and tract degeneration observed are causally related, thus bringing the morphology of the TCP neurotoxicity in line with Wallerian degeneration.
