Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Low-carbon magnetic core steel is prone to aging due to an increased gas content.

  2. 2.

    The tendency to age magnetically is not removed by slow cooling after annealing; however, it is reduced by annealing at 850° instead of 920° C. Annealing in hydrogen reduces the magnetic aging tendency very considerably.

  3. 3.

    An increase in the aluminum conten to 0.010–0.015% at 0.015%N and 0.006%O eliminates magnetic aging. However, additions of aluminum make it harder to achieve low values of coercive force.
