Abstract
The benzoylation and p-chlorobenzoylation of dibenzothiophene in the presence of small amounts of FeCl3 and its complex with nitromethane, ZnCl2, and iron acetylacetonate lead to the corresponding 3-acyldibenzothiophenes in good yields.
