Summary
The addition of small amounts of niobium (0.02–0.05%) is the most effective in the case of 10G and 10G2 steels. Niobium enters the solid solution and considerably increases the strength of the ferrite and the general strength of the steel; the ductility and resilience are satisfactory.
An increase in the carbon concentration to 0.30% and that of manganese to 2% induces the formation of a considerable amount of the bainitic component, which determines the properties of the steel regardless of the presence of niobium.
