Conclusions

  1. 1.

For quenched and tempered structural steel of the 35KhGSA type an increase of the phosphorus content by 0.01% (from 0.005 to 0.045%) raises the ductile-brittle transition temperature by 23°C, reduces the work of crack propagation by 1 kg-m/cm2, and increases the susceptibility to reversible temper brittle-ness by 40°C (in terms of criterion ΔT50).

  2. 2.

The reduction of the resistance to brittle fracture of quenched and tempered structural steel by phosphorus is commensurate with the increase of the resistance to brittle fracture by adding nickel and molybdenum.
