Conclusions

  1. 1.

    Stepped quenching, used in mass production of thread-cutting dies, is not the best heat treatment due to substantial distortion.

  2. 2.

    The quality of thread-cutting dies made of steel 9KhS is improved by isothermal quenching — there is less distortion and the durability increases.
