Metal Science and Heat Treatment Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

Reinforcement by high-strength filaments and sheets can substantially increase the resistance to brittle fracture and the fatigue strength of materials. The optimal condition of reinforcing to obtain a high fatigue strength is a strong outer layer (for laminated materials) and a matrix not tending to rapid hardening in the process of deformation.

  2. 2.

The heat resistance can be increased by reinforcement only in the absence of chemical interaction between the matrix and the reinforcing fibers and the presence of a strong bond between them.
