The structure and evolution of a slow deflagration front propagating into a degenerate star

Abstract

The structure and evolution of a slow reaction front propagation into a cool, hydrogen rich shell above an inert core has been studied. It has been found that, during the evolution of the front, the total radiative luminosity drops from ∼104 L to ∼10−4 L in a time scale of the order of 109 yr. The burned up fraction of the fuel is found to be less than 1%.
