Teacher training for a multi-cultural society in the UK

Abstract

Britain is a multi-cultural society which now includes some 1 1/2 million people of Asian and Afro-caribbean origin, over 40% of whom were born in the UK. This paper examines whether teacher training institutions have responded to this new situation and suggests as to how such training can be provided.

Grossbritannien hat eine poly-kulturelle Gesellschaft, in der jetzt etwa 1 1/2 Millionen Menschen asiatischer und afro-karibischer Herkunft leben, von denen wiederum über 40% im Vereinigten Königreich geboren wurden. Dieser Artikel untersucht, ob die Lehrerausbildungsstätten auf diese neue Situation reagiert haben, und schlägt Ausbildungsformen vor.

La Grande-Bretagne est une société multiculturelle comprenant maintenant quelque 1 million et demi de personnes d'origine asiatique et africaine (Caraibes), dont plus de 40% naquirent au Royaume-Uni. Cet article examine si les instituts de formation d'enseignants se sont adaptés à cette nouvelle situation et ont fournit des suggestions sur la manière d'assurer une telle formation.
