Investigation of the elastic and strength characteristics of laminated plastics in shear

Mechanics of Composite Materials Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

It was shown that the edge effect has an insubstantial influence on the elastic and strength properties of the investigated specimens in shear. This makes it possible to carry out experimental work with comparatively narrow specimens with width b = 12 mm.

  2. 2.

In the determination of the elastic and strength properties of laminated composites in shear it is necessary to take into account the influence of the scale effect (increased area of the loaded section at the expense of the thickness of the specimen).

  3. 3.

Study of the sequence and dispersity of stacking the monolayers in the stack showed that highly disperse arrangements of reinforcement are preferable. For the determination of the properties of a monolayer, a specimen with the greatest dispersity of stacking of the monolayers in the stack should be used.

  4. 4.

For all the composites under consideration the dependences τ12 = f(γ) were substantially nonlinear.
