Thermoelastic edge effects and warping of cross-reinforced composite plates

Mechanics of Composite Materials Aims and scope

Conclusions

  1. 1.

An analytic solution has been obtained for the warping and edge effects in a plate with structure ±ϕ, in a homogeneous temperature field.

  2. 2.

As a result of a numerical analysis of the solution it was possible to investigate the effect of the fiber angle ϕ on the thermoelastic effects. It was found that for the parameters typical of glass-reinforced plastics as the number of layers increases the influence of the nonsymmetry of the structure becomes less perceptible and at n ⩾ 12 practically vanishes.
