On the role of diffusion processes in the uptake of specimen components into the spark discharge zone

Abstract

Spectroscopic studies showing that diffusion processes play a secondary role in the uptake of specimen components into the discharge cloud in alloys that exhibit very pronounced intercrystallite diffusion are described. Dendritic etching of copper alloys by electrical discharges was established experimentally. This newly discovered phenomenon was manifested most distinctly in alloys with horophilic elements which facilitate an intricate complex of physicochemical processes in the interdendritic zones and at the crystallite boundaries.
