Abstract

The morphology of silicon crystal precipitate in a hypereutectic Al-Si alloys is analysed. The morphology is investigated at different cooling rates. A theoretical model describing the growth of facetted crystals is developed. The most important parameters for the formation of the observed crystals are determined.
