Summary

The toxicity (LD50) of mercurous and mercuric iodide and nitrate for mice and rats has been calculated by Behrens' method after a single dose and an observation time of 6 days. There was no essential difference between the toxicity of corresponding mercurous and mercuric nitrate after parenteral administration but mercurous iodide was less toxic than mercuric iodide after oral administration. The toxicity of parenterally administered mercuric and mercurous iodide was about 1/10 of the toxicity of the corresponding nitrates.
