Conclusions

-- Studies which have been performed have made it possible to discover definite advantages of LOAP over other types of cellulose combustion retardants.

-- The flame-protective action of LOAP is localized in the condensed phase and is expressed in an intensification of the processes of dehydration and coke formation of the polymer, and in inhibition of carbon oxidation in the coke residues.

-- At the start of thermal transformations in the course of pyrolysis, the OMAP undergoes a phosphazene—phosphazane rearrangement, which causes the greater effectiveness of its flame-protective action with respect to cellulosic materials as compared to ODAP.

-- The technology of using LOAP for flame-protective treatment of cellulosic materials has been justified under laboratory conditions and is recommended for introduction into industry.
