Summary
The activity of hydrolytic enzymes in the cells of 6 mainly spindle cell sarcomas was only faint or even absent. As to oxidative enzymes, succinodehydrogenase activity was very faint too. On the other hand, lactic dehydrogenase and NADH2-nitro-BT-reductase exhibited a very strong activity. The strong reaction for LDH suggests the terminal product of glycolysis occurs mainly as lactic acid. In isoenzymes of lactic dehydrogenase, there is a prevalence of both cathodic fractions 4 and 5, whereas the 1 st and 2nd anodic fractions are missing. This corresponds to a strong preponderance of M subunits which are characteristic for an anaerobic metabolism.
