Summary

Bismuthiol II has been found to be an effective reagent for the estimation of palladium in presence of Ru3+, OsO4 2−, Os4+, Ir4+ and Rh3+ at aph 6.6–8.0 with EDTA (disodium salt) as the masking agent and in presence of Au3+, OsO4 2−, Os4+ and Ir4+ atph 6–7 with thiosulphate as the complexing agent. Pd2+ and Pt4+ can be separated from each other by precipitation in presence of a tartrate (ph 6–8), when Pt4+ remains in solution or in presence of a cyanide (ph 5–6.5) when Pd2+ and Rh3+ are left behind.
