Paget's disease in inverted nasal papilloma

Summary

A case of an endonasal Paget's disease is presented, which developed from an inverted papilloma of the nose in a 77-year-old woman and was diagnosed histologically by biopsy. After extensive destruction of nasal cavity and sinuses the patient died at an age of 82 years. Unfortunately an autopsy could not be performed. This is the first description of an endonasal Paget's carcinoma. There are only 31 cases of extramammary and extraanogenital Paget's disease being reported in the literature. The histogenetical problems of Paget's disease are discussed. The local origin of the Paget's cells within the squamous epithelium of the papilloma is supposed in the here described case.

Zusammenfassung

Den 31 bisher in der Literatur mitgeteilten Fällen von extramammärem und extraanogenitalem Paget-Carcinom wird erstmalig die Beobachtung eines endonasalen Paget-Carcinoms angefügt. Bei einer 77jährigen Frau wurde bioptisch ein Paget-Carcinom auf dem Boden eines invertierten Nasenpapilloms nachgewiesen. Nach weitgehender Zerstörung der Binnenräume der Nase und der Nebenhöhlen verstarb die Patientin im Alter von 82 Jahren. Eine Autopsie konnte nicht vorgenommen werden. Histogenetische Probleme des Morbus Paget werden erörtert und beim beschriebenen Fall eine ortsständige Entstehung der Paget-Zellen im Pflasterepithel des Papilloms angenommen.
