Summary
-
1.
Covered hibernating Helix pomatia were held under conditions of nearly 97% relative humidity and a photoperiod of 8 hours (LD=8∶16). The extent to which the osmotic pressure and the Na, K and Cl content of the hemolymph are dependent upon temperature was examined.
-
2.
In the middle of January at a temperature of ±0°C the osmotic pressure and ion content are remarkably higher than in active summer snails. Compared to the results of summer the temperatures of +5° and +10° C cause a decrease in the K content, the Cl content remains constant and the Na/K ratio is high.
-
3.
From the middle of January to the end of March the osmotic pressure and the Na and Cl content fall significantly. The Na/K ratio also decreases; the K content does not change. The decline of inorganic ions is greater than expected considering the difference in osmotic pressure.
-
4.
During 24 hours at +4° C only the K values change significantly. After every change in brightness the content of K rises. The Na/K ratio shows a cyclical change with highest values during the period of light.
-
5.
If the LD-change is coupled with the temperature change ±0° / +8° C, a maximum of all values occurs after every light-darkness change.
Zusammenfassung
-
1.
