Abstract

The principles of elastic electron scattering and of the nuclear-volume effect in muonic atoms are explained in a simple way. Recent measurements for the proton, the α particle, and heavy spherical and deformed nuclei are given as examples. Precise relative measurements reveal the different charge distributions of neighboring stable nuclei. Charge radii of short-lived radioactive isotopes can be determined by the old method of optical isotope shifts.

Der Aufsatz basiert auf Vorträgen, die der Verfasser in der letzten Zeit gehalten hat. Die Beispiele wurden hauptsächlich nach didaktischen Gesichtspunkten ausgewählt. Über die Massenverteilung und damit die Neutronenverteilung soll in einem späteren Beitrag berichtet werden.
