Unusual phenotype of a newborn with Turner's syndrome

Abstract

Case report of a premature female infant with karyotype 45,XO. In addition to the typical symptoms of neonatal Turner's syndrome we encountered generalized hydrops and a meningo-myelocele-like sac in the nuchal region. A review of the literature revealed similar cases in the fetal period and of two other newborns. The connection between the nuchal sac and webbing neck is discussed.

Zusammenfassung

Kasuistik eines weiblichen Frühgeborenen, bei dem die cytogenetische Untersuchung einen Karyotyp 45,XO ergab. Neben den für das Turner-Syndrom im Neugeborenenalter typischen Stigmata wurde ein generalisierter Hydrops und eine meningomyelocelenähnliche Vorwölbung im Nacken beobachtet. An Hand der Literaturübersicht werden ähnliche Fälle aus der Fetalperiode und zwei weitere Neugeborene nachgewiesen. Zusammenhänge zwischen den sogenannten Nackenblasen und dem Turner-Syndrom werden diskutiert.
