Inhibition of Coprinus cinereus by 5-fluoroindole

Abstract

5-Fluoroindole (5FI) was more inhibitory than 5-fluorotryptophan (5FT) to Coprinus cinereus. A mutant blocked in the conversion of indole to tryptophan, but not one blocked earlier in the tryptophan pathway, was resistant to 5FI. This is consistent with the hypothesis that 5FI was converted in vivo to 5FT which inhibited growth.
