Abstract
Phase shifts due to optical pumping have been measured in a Nd3+-doped fibre amplifier. The measurements were made with a two-fibre Mach-Zehnder interferometer. It is shown that phase shifts are mainly due to fibre heating. The results are compared with heat transport theory.
